Topic: Cryptocurrency, Blockchain and Their Business Applications

The New entrepreneurial technology ventures like to describe themselves as “disruptive.” Among them, no technology today is as potentially revolutionary as the cryptocurrencies and the blockchain. These new systems can be the game changers for conventional money, payments, and record-keeping. Most important, they challenge the conventional role of trust in transactions.

In this talk, we will walk through the history of cryptocurrency, discuss blockchain’s interdisciplinary nature, and learn some insights from academic research.

Faculty Profile

Allen Huang is an Associate Professor at the Accounting Department at The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. Allen’s research focus on textual processing, earnings management, financial analyst and short-selling. He has published in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Management Science and Contemporary Accounting Research. Prior to joining HKUST, he worked in the Quantitative Equity Strategy group in Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital in New York. Allen holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Duke University and a B.S. in Electronics from Peking University in China.
